James Gunn will direct and write “Superman: Legacy,” set to release on July 11, 2025. The film will explore Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his Clark Kent upbringing. Henry Cavill will not reprise his role as Superman in this new iteration of the connected DC Universe. Gunn previously directed Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” films and made DC’s “The Suicide Squad.” “Superman: Legacy” will be followed by Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II,” set to release in October 2025.
