Taking on a franchise on its third movie is no easy feat, especially when you’re also making your directorial debut and starring in the film. Michael B. Jordan must have felt the pressure, especially with the previous two films having been helmed by talented filmmakers like Ryan Coogler and Steven Caple Jr. But with “Creed III” now in theaters across the country, Jordan has managed to create a fresh start for Adonis Creed, who finally steps out of the shadow of his father Apollo and Rocky Balboa.

Rocky’s absence has given the franchise a chance to grow, and that growth comes in the form of Jonathan Majors, who plays Damian Anderson, an old buddy of Adonis from their time in a group home in the early 2000s. Unlike Adonis, Damian is older and boxes in underground matches at night, with Adonis helping him out. There’s a palpable tension between the two, with Damian’s implied willingness to play dirty and the power dynamic between them making for an uneasy relationship. A violent altercation outside a convenience store brings the flashback to an end, with Damian going away and Adonis becoming the Creed we know today.

Despite the challenges, Michael B. Jordan has risen to the occasion with “Creed III,” delivering a film that breathes new life into the franchise while staying true to its roots. With Jordan’s star power and talent behind the camera, the future looks bright for the Creed series.  Thumbs up from the DLZ Crew 🙂
