So, I just read that the Tyrannosaurus Rex might look different than what I learned as a kid.  According to a recent study published in the journal Science, the popular image of the Tyrannosaurus rex with its large, sharp teeth exposed may be inaccurate. The research suggests that the dinosaur’s teeth were covered by scaly lips, even during a wide open bite.

This finding challenges previous depictions of the dinosaur with its teeth sticking out, which some researchers believed were too big to fit inside the mouth. However, the study compared the skulls of dinosaurs and living reptiles and found that some monitor lizards have even bigger teeth than T. rex relative to their skull size, yet they can still fit them under a set of scaly lips.

Furthermore, the researchers observed the wear and tear patterns on the tooth surfaces, which differed from those of creatures like crocodiles whose teeth stick out of their mouths and get worn down quickly.

This study is part of an ongoing debate on how dinosaur mouths really looked, and it offers new insights into the appearance of these ancient creatures.
