Austin Butler has revealed he was hospitalised on the day he finished filming Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic. The 31-year-old actor said he didn’t get sick during filming, but a virus hit him the day he wrapped up the movie, and he ended up in the emergency room. Butler spent a week in bed before starting a new job. He previously explained the hospitalisation was due to a virus that caused symptoms similar to appendicitis. Despite avoiding illness while playing Elvis, Butler did feel the strain during filming. “We did so many takes. At a certain point, I just lost my voice,” he said. Nevertheless, the actor said the experience was “the greatest ride of my life”. Butler won best actor in a drama motion picture at the Golden Globes in January and the same award at the BAFTA Awards earlier this month. He is also a nominee for the upcoming Oscars.
